18 Sep 2005 - Novice Aquathlon a great success

The Club held its first competition at Howe Bridge Leisure Centre today and big smiles were the order of the day. With many athletes competing in their first event of this type, the emphasis was on having fun. Congratulations to everyone who took part for trying so hard and smiling so much. Fiona had put in tremendous efforts behind the scenes, sorting out the venue and all the other administration which is needed to run such an event. Jane Bent and the Wigan Sports Development Team were very helpful in arranging funding for the event, and we are also very grateful to Asda for supplying the goodie bags and Proctor and Gamble for making a donation to fund the medals. Everything appeared to run smoothly thanks to the volunteer marshals Tom, Lauren B, Justine, Yvonne, Dave, Sarah, Judith, Ann-Marie, Charlotte, Jade, Lauren C, Sam, Neil and Louise - I hope I haven't missed anyone off the list. Thanks also to Carol for acting as first aider and to those, particularly Neil, who helped set up the course. Without the help of all these people, the competition could not have taken place. Finally, thanks to the staff ot Howe Bridge Leisure Centre.
